So far I still want to find out the following:

Despite proving the existence of Ordinary People with Special Abilities, now what?
How many demons do we have to put back into Hell’s Gate with just an Antique Colt?
Has that lost Battlestar still manned by a dysfunctional crew found Earth yet?
Is re-launching a Federation Constitution class Starship with Captain Player and it crew of 400 misfits from all corners of the Alpha Quadrant is really such a good idea?
How could a Sith army from the Dark Side pull a fast one over the Alliance and the New Jedi Council again?
Why do armies of Men, Elves, Orcs and handful of Hobbits are still trying to finish an amazing race over a piece of Elven jewelry?
How could a dark arts warlock and a young wizard from Hogwarts still be going at it?
Why is the Air Force’s secret project the Stargate is still sending teams to other worlds and still pissing off other alien cultures?
How do the lost survivors of a crashed airplane still managed to stay lost after all this time?
How does a private investigator in Chicago who also happens to be the only practicing wizard and a warden of the White Council of Wizards managed to stay alive with the trash talk coming out of his mouth regardless faced by Vampires,Faeries,Ghouls,Demons and all types of nasties and stay broke?
How can one call a raunchy pirate crew led by an inberated Captain who attests that swaggering is a proper way to walk and rum should replace all types of beverage?
How does an ordinary man manage to save the world several times over by bedding women, drinking medium dry vodka martinis, lose high tech equipment costing millions and still remain in the good graces Of Her Majesty’s Secret Service, I mean, MI:6?

To explore the world of science fiction, fantasy and the culinary arts.To seek out rare hard to find things like books, toys, magazines,DVDs for a cheap price. To boldly go where no sane man has gone before...in a 14 year old Sports Utility Vehicle.

An adventurer’s life is never a dull moment-shaken,not stirred
Guys,

This lady's 3-year old nephew was abducted at Tom's World Arcade in Festival Mall in Alabang.Apparently he was approached by a teenage girl and willingly went with her when she whispered something to the boy. Matthew is scheduled for surgery for fluid in his right testis and barely eats unless fed by his yaya.

Please spread this post to your contacts and if you happen to see a kid who might be Matthew, please contact his parents ASAP.

Thanks

http://melquita.multiply.com/photos/album/348/HELP_My_Nephew_Was_Abducted

Parenthood-The 3rd time around,Ten Years later edition

I thought she was just delayed because she was under a lot of stress lately. And we have been locking horns too. Then she decided to take a pregnancy test.Yup,Positive.Two blue lines. So our up and coming youngster-we have a feeling it's another boy-will be due March 2009.A decade gap from his older siblings, but it's all good.

My side of the family are all excited, her side is not. Can't blame them, she's already 43 years old, a borderline diabetic and the last time ended up a miscarriage. She was actually considering abortion because of complications and cost. And everyone she talked to told her the child is not a bane,it's a gift. Many couples are trying so hard yet are still wishing for a child. Our child was given to us for a reason.Whatever that reason was,it sure has to be a good one.

Last night, after two weeks of denial-it sank in.We are going to be parents again. We were tossing names around.Among the names the popped out-blame her for staring at my DVD collection:

1.)
My Top Ten Albums of All Time

I love music of all genres.Rock, pop, soundtracks, jazz, you name it.But if I were to choose 10 CDs I would take with me on a trip to on a deserted island these would be it:
10.) Ten-Pearl Jam-this is the album when Eddie Vedder and Company kicked off the alternative music scene. My fave tracks would be Alive,Jeremy,Evenflow and Black

9.) The Black Album –Metallica – This album is legendary. Bang your heavy metal angst to Enter Sandman,The Unforgiven,Nothing Else Matters.

8.) Flashpoint – The Rolling Stones – Forty Licks is a great compilation album, but Flashpoint is their best live performance CD to date. Recorded live in Tokyo in 1991,Jagger and Richards gave new twisting renditions of Jumping Jack Flash,Start It Up and Paint it Black.Another favourite is the lone studio track on the album-Highwire.

7.) Daredevil-The Soundtrack-Believe it or not,the movie was bad,but the soundtrack rocked the charts.I listen to this when I used to have the time to work out in the gym.I mean y...

I dislocated what and it pinched what?

Got a stiff neck since Sunday night, after an impromptu hilot by Jenny,I thought its be ok in a couple of days. It's already Thursday and my mom know this chiro / sport meds specialist and pointed me to see him.

Doc: Ok.you have a dislocated axis that pinched a couple of nerve ulnas that's why it hurts
when your arm, shoulder and neck are at a certain angle.
Me: Huh?
Doc: You pulled your shoulder, along with it your muscles and a couple of pinched
nerves. That's why your neck is stiff and hurting.
Me: Oh.So you gonna stretch ,yank and pull until everything twists back in place?
Doc: That only happens in the movies.Put Salonpas on these specific spots and take Ponstan
if the pain is unbearable.Everything will shrink back to place once the swelling is gone.

And I thought its a twist, two pops in the shoulder and a crack and I'm as good a new.Damn.
Lyrical Poetry (Ripped Offed Lyrics turned Ripped Up Poems)

One of the most pathetic and cheesiest stunts to impress a girl.We used to do this back in college. We take out a stanza from a song, add it up with other stanzas from more songs and try to make it sound like a sorry excuse for a poem written specifically for the girl. Some who were totally clueless of the choices of music fall head over heels, while the smarter ones were on to you by the time she reads the second phrase. Can any of you recognize from which songs I got this and do you think you can do better?

Close your eyes but you still see,
Though love is blind
Though you try just can't leave the past behind
He's on your mind
You'll forget him
Like he forgot you
Nothing you could do

I don't believe it
I don't think that's true
It'll just pass if we allow it to
It's just a stage we're going through
I think you're just restless for something new

I never felt like this before
I know this is passion
worth waiting for
let love take take its course
that's the only thing
for us t...

The Shadow visits Toycon 2008

My first Toycon attendance, and everybody I know was going in costume.
Friends from the 501st Legion and Star Wars Philippines came in as Stormtroopers, Clonetroopers, Jedis, Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Emperor Palpatine. Via Astris’ Mark Escay pulled out all stops for his ensemble of the anime version of Speed Racer. Iana Marzan cosplayed the indestructible Claire Bennett (S1 and S2) from Heroes for 2 days. The Pirate Crew of Black Pearl Philippines were in their usual rowdy and mutinous selves as everyone struggled to hide the rum from the scallywags. Although I have second thoughts of coming in costume, I do have the components of one prepared just in case it was needed-and the sign was two yards of excess red fabric which Mark only used a portion for Speed Racer’s ascott. As most of the people were busy taking pictures of cosplayers, I managed to do a cinematic transformation fitting of my character of choice. With a costume that fitted in one messenger bag I first wrapped the ...

The Andromeda Strain-2008 Mini Series

I just finished watching the 2008 remake of Michael Crichton’s The Andromeda Strain. Compared to the 1971 movie, this version is a more updated and accurate film interpretation of the book. Starring Benjamin Bratt as Dr.Jeremy Stone, Christa Miller as Dr.Angela Noyce, Daniel Dae Kim as Dr.Tsi Chou, Ricky Schroeder as Major Bill Keane,M.D., Viola Davis as Dr. Charlene Barton, Andre Braugher as General George Mancheck and Eric McCormack as NNT Reporter Jack Nash.

The story begins when a satellite crashes in Piedmont, a small town in Utah. A teenage couple throws the satellite at the back of their pick up and brings it to town. Hours later, an Army retrieval unit arrives at the crash site and tracks the satellite back to Piedmont. The unit discovers the entire town population dead, expect for a man who was asking them for help. Within minutes of entering the town, the unit themselves succumbs and dies. Back at Fort Dietrich, General George Mancheck, head of Project Scoop was informed o...

Sengoku Jieitai 1549 (Samurai Commando Mission 1549)

Sengoku Jieitai 1549 is based on a science fiction manga by Ryo Hanmura and a re-invention of the 1979 film Sengoku Jieitai (Time Slip) by Mitsumasa Saito starring cult legend Sonny Chiba.

The story begins at East Mount Fuji in 2003 when a Japanese Ground Self Defense Force experiment involving electromagnetic shielding accidentally sent one of its combat units, Experimental Unit 3, back into Japan’s feudal Age of Warring States in 1547.Seventy four hours later, the area affected by the time slip reverts to its original timeline with no sign of the EU3 except for a lone wounded samurai, Shichibei Iinuma.

Two years later, former JGSDF Lieutenant Yusuke Kashima, now a tired restaurant owner, gets a late night visit from JGSDF Major Mori and Lieutenant Rei Kanzaki, the officer responsible for the shielding experiment. They show Kashima the video of the experiment and a black hole forming on the base itself, consuming the present.Mori and Kanzaki believe that the EU3’s commander, Col...

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull

When George Lucas and Steven Spielberg announced that a fourth Indy film will be made, I was ecstatic. I always have been a fan of the cliffhanger serials, which Spielberg based Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indiana Jones is one of those movies that made you feel like a non stop roller coaster ride-there is always that surprise twist or drop you couldn’t anticipate. So when Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull was finally shown-and after seeing it twice in two days – I was right.

The movie starts in 1957 with Indy and his friend Mac Mchale were abducted from their dig at New Mexico by Soviet KGB and GRU operatives led by Colonel Irina Spalko and taken to Area 51 in the Nevada desert. The Soviets were searching for the mummified remains of a certain artifact that was inspected by Indy and a team of specialists under government secrecy ten years earlier. Indy locates the artifact by using gunpowder, grenade shrapnel and buckshot, relying on the highly magnetic characteristics of the artifac...

Are you experienced? Well don't worry, just have a listen to this account of the curious life of cartoonist, painter and writer Lynda Barry, and you'll earn your stripes.
The Forbidden Kingdom: A Kung Fu fan’s review

The Forbidden Kingdom is another take on the timeless Chinese epic Journey to the West.As a kid I have seen countless versions of this story, my favorite among them was the anime Alakazaam-The Monkey God. The Shaw Brothers did a great period film in their production of Journey To The West and so did the more recent version of this tale in NBC / SciFi’s 2003 miniseries,The Monkey King starring Russell Wong, Thomas Gibson and Bai Ling.

The Forbidden King is a martial arts feast itself, featuring together for the first time and in a Western production of a Chinese adventure tale, two of the Hong Kong cinema’s action legends, Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

The film begins with the story of bullied teenager Jason Tripitikas and how he came across the Ruyi Jingu Bang, Monkey King’s Golden Staff in a pawnshop in Boston’s Chinatown while looking for Kung Fu DVDs.After a series of events throws Jason back to the time of the Monkey King, he meets Lu Yan, one of the Eight Immortals. Lu tells Jas...

The Mummy

Being bed ridden with the flu for a few days has its perks. One of them is watching some old flicks from my DVD library. I always liked to watch adventure/fantasy/thrillers or cliffhangers in the afternoons ,similar to the old movies shown on TV in the old days.Even if I have seen it over and over, I knew I’m in for a good time. My choice for that particular afternoon was the Mummy series. The 1999 remake loosely based on the original 1932 version with Boris Karloff was intended to be a low budget horror film turned into a blockbuster adventure movie with the atmosphere and vibe of a comic book

The Mummy is the story of forbidden love, mythology and dark magic. This film is such a roller coaster ride that will always have you screaming for more. The comic relief moments are also well timed and involved all the characters including the Mummy itself.

The Mummy begins three thousand years ago during the reign of the Pharoah Seti the First, when the High Priest Imhotep betrays the Phara...

What's Been Happening to Me Lately?

I know I haven't posted anything significant the past couple of weeks except a birthday tribute to Karen,a fan review on Iron Man and some recipes.Lately I have been to a birthday party at Club Dredd,a despedida party for a friend who's getting married in Missouri, trying to cut back on my alcohol intake, trying to get a good schedule to play airsoft, helping a couple of friends cope with depression and insomnia, helping in Fandom Cafe's two new projects, making a book donation for PGH Ward 9, playing the guitar again- callouses and all, nearly shot my frakking brother -in -law twice in less than 24 hours(seriously, why doesn't he just die so we can move on with our lives peacefully.),finding a quantum of solace in the POB section of National Book Store (Man,can't believe the stuff you'd find there-in almost new condition and cheap too.),replacing my old pirated DVDs with higher quality pirated DVDs with special features, and finally perfected a recipe for Steak Rice.

Other than that it's a...

Risotto le Salpicao

Had Beef Salpicao earlier at a restaurant that is famous for its pasta. The beef was tender aside from that it was kind of pedestrian fare for the price I paid for it.Later I was watching Jamie Oliver preparing risotto and this recipe was born out of a safe bet combination.I mean steak and rice, how could one muck it

IRON MAN

Iron Man – A Review from a Big Fan of Shellhead.

When news of casting for the Iron Man movie was announced in December 2006,
I said to myself, finally after 22 years of rumors back and forth about an Iron Man film it is really happening. After seeing the movie it was indeed worth the wait.

First and foremost, hats off the director Jon Favreau who not only kept to the path of the comic book but was also able to blend the different storylines from the comics and integrated it in a very realistic tale. Being no stranger to the Marvel Universe, Favreau has portrayed two Marvel characters-as Franklin ’Foggy’ Nelson in Daredevil and as ‘Harold ‘Happy’ Hogan in Iron Man.

The origin sequence on how Stark built the armor was well written.Updated from 1964 Vietnam to present day Afghanistan, the scene still breathes much life from the legendary story that was printed in Marvel’s Strange Tales title. After Tony Stark witnessed his weapons being used by terrorists and decides to destroy ...
